It's an intaglio print from a Znic plate. The line was etched and the value was aquatinted.

As for the meaning, I intended it to work on a few levels. It can be anti-Yankees, anti- big business, anti-corporate America, or whatever else.
What it represents to me is the demographic that is most likely to succeed in our society. More important than his position in life is his attitude towards everyone else. He's just triumphant, living easy, and he doesn't care that it was the society and life he was born into, much less his own merit, that enabled his success. He has a lack of compassion towards others. He's the guy that guns the engine of America, and doesn't care who can't hang on in the process. He's a "good old boy" that can spend weekends at the golf course, or the holidays in the Swiss Alps, while everyone else trying to get by.

Yes, this dude exists. I met him in Italy on a long train ride from La Spezia to Firenze. He was a friendly guy, around 24, who had was backpacking through Europe with his friends. He introduced himself to my friends and I, and sat down our compartment. He had a tendency to talk a lot. He's one of those guys you can learn a lot from, but at the same time, he'll never learn anything from you. He was a former star athlete with a budding beer gut. He was an intelligent and well-read Republican. He was a Notre Dame graduate with a lucrative job lined up in the wine industry upon his return to the States. He was cultured enough to travel to Europe and ignorant enough to spend most of his time in the bars. He laughed at the monopoly that his business is becoming. Throughout the entire experience with him my opinion oscillated from extreme respect to extreme disgust. He really wasn't a bad guy, but there was just something fundamentally wrong with what he represented. He's Joe America, and he's going to run the country someday.

Too true, but he won't just run the country someday... people like Joe America are running the US right now, and have been for years.
...but China ought to shake things up a bit...

Gj on the sketch, by the way ;)

Hey thanks for the comment! Yeah I agree with you. China's on its way as well. No one can stay on top forever.

Thanks Josh! Great to hear from you! Where have you been hiding anyway??? I haven't seen you all semester!

wow... the backstory behind this is awesome, and looking at it after the story makes it read perfectly.

Good job on the aquatinting too. That process is a bear!
